It might play, but need a repad very soon, this is expensive, and to do it properly the keywork play need to be sorted. Generally well worn, clunky rattly keywork and difficult intonation. I'm surprised it's so yellow, could be the pics, but it could also be that the plating has gone/worn away or it's silver plated. The Buescher pics aren't good, but there appears to be a nasty bit of damage on the bow. Only downside of nickel is if you're allergic to it.

Ignore plating - it has no effect on sound. Although it was a feature, you can ignore it.

The vent was put on to improve intonation/speaking. They stopped putting them on saxes cos no-one used them.įront F - although modern saxes all have them, it's not essential and isn't necessary - there are alternative fingerings. This one attracts me only because of the price, but if anyone would like to offer their insight regarding this models advantages/disadvantages, I would appreciate it.įinally, for such a low price tag ($1200 Australian), should I be a little wary? It does sound a bit cheap compared to what I normally see, and I know one can get what one pays for. The Second is a Selmar Bundy from USA (not sure what this means in terms of quality-Selmar Paris are the highest quality correct?)

If someone could explain this, that would be great. The one I'm most interested in is the Buescher from 1919 (I have a love for history), but don't have any idea what effect nickel plating has on the sound, nor what the advantages/disadvantages of a G# Trill Key, lack of Front F Key, or E Vent Key are. That said, I have no experience with saxophones, and all the jargon surrounding make and build is confusing, so I was hoping for some help. In searching for my first horn, I've come across two second hand models that I like the look and feel of (one also shouldn't forget the price tag).
